Bedford Residence

Architecture, Interior Design, Residential —

Reddymade collaborated with a range of top tier artists and artisans to create something very special for a client’s home in Bedford, New York. The design of this home is focused on the idea of melding the client’s extensive art collection and design into something that’s unified and offers continual moments of discovery.  The entryway begins with a customized doormat that has the inscription “Guilt Free Zone” written in the client’s own handwriting. The 11-foot-tall, 8-foot-wide copper repoussé front doors are embellished with an image of the tree of life.

Upon entering the house, a large tree branch light fixture anchors the entryway space, drawing on bucolic themes. The 17-foot-long, 12-foot-wide light was a collaboration with glass artist Jeff Zimmerman.

The dining room houses a 12-foot-long 3D-printed sculpture by Geoff Mann. This particular design is drawn from inspiration of a much smaller version displayed in MoMA’s design collection. The kitchen doubles as an entertaining space. The centerpiece of the room is a credenza made from broken Portugese tile. A custom-designed a pullout extension act as a bar. Screens decorated with images of Marie Antoinette drop down on either side of the credenza to section off the dining area. Above the table hangs a custom light fixture by Ma’ayan Pesach

For the playroom, we created a clear plexiglass box for the coffee table, which the client and her granddaughter could fill with colorful sand, animals, and objects. The walls in the niche area above the playroom are decorated with fairytale scenes which are custom 3D cut out illustrations. The rug adds a more playful element to the room with the rubber tires, junk cell phones, dolls and other objects arranged in it.

The living room features custom embroidered chairs by Lesage, in a script we developed for the client. The fireplace centerpiece was found in a Paris fleamarket and which was restored to its original condition. Custom sconces designed by Christophe Côme, represented by Cristina Grajales Gallery, flank the fireplace. We found the resin dining table through Gabrielle Ammann Gallery, underneath which sits a silver to bronze leather rug.

The powder room features a custom cabinet designed by Aranda\Lasch and wallpaper from Maharam by Jacob Hashimoto.

The primary bedroom is covered with embroidered panels and curtains with patterns inspired by a 1960s design for an Italian jewelry store. We developed custom cubist patterns that draw on various themes of music and abstractly rendered embroidery. The primary bathroom has a chandelier by Mathieu Lehanneur, represented by Carpenters Workshop Gallery, and wallpaper made from digitally printed suede with a scene from Alice in Wonderland which was created by HD Walls and DreamScape.
