Humanscale Shanghai Showroom
Commercial — 2024
Reddymade’s ongoing collaboration with ergonomic furniture brand Humanscale expanded to China in 2024 with the opening of a new showroom in Shanghai. Located in the city’s dynamic Jing’An District, the space continues the shared vision of creating work environments where design, sustainability, and well-being come together.
Similar to the Chicago showroom, the space is thoughtfully designed to highlight Humanscale’s dedication to sustainability and timeless style. Conceived by Suchi Reddy, FAIA, founder of Reddymade, the design celebrates the embodied experience—how architecture can enhance comfort, movement, and sensory awareness in the workplace.
Large circular architectural volumes animate and amplify the space, creating a spacious and inviting backdrop that frames the brand’s hero products—most notably the iconic Freedom Chair, now part of the Cooper Hewitt National Design Museum’s permanent collection after celebrating its 25th anniversary.
“Designing the Shanghai showroom allowed us to continue the dialogue of embodied experience that began in Chicago,” says Suchi Reddy. “Every detail—from the curvature of the forms to the way light moves through the space—is about honoring the body and encouraging discovery.”
This second showroom signals the continued growth of Reddymade and Humanscale’s global partnership, with future locations planned for Paris, Sydney, and Singapore—each expanding the conversation around how sustainable design can foster wellness and innovation in the workplace.
